When it comes to the world of infant car seats there are a plethora of options out there, it can be overwhelming to any new parent. From safety to comfort to convenience, each car seat has their own unique set of features that set them apart from the rest.

From your little one’s very first car ride, we want you to be confident in choosing the best seat amongst the smorgasbord of seats for you and your babe. So today, we are comparing two top-rated infant car seats with one of our favourite comfort features — the lie-flat recline. That’s right, we said recline!

The Peg Perego Viaggio 4-35 Lounge Infant Seat and Cybex Cloud G SensorSafe Lux Comfort Extend Car Seat are two of the few infant car seats on the market that fully recline when used outside of the car, providing maximum comfort for your sleepy little loungers.

But that’s not the only cool feature these two seats. Let’s dig into the details, so you can decide which of these car seats is best suited for you and your little fam jam.

The Specs

Peg Perego Viaggio 4-35 Lounge Infant Seat:

  • Suitable for children: 4 to 35 lbs
  • Child Height: Up to 32” tall
  • Dimensions: 31” D x 17” W x 27” H
  • Seat Depth: 13”
  • Car Seat Weight: 12 lbs
  • Expiration Date: 7 years from date of original purchase. If uncertain on date of purchase, please refer to date of manufacture.

Cybex Cloud G SensorSafe Lux Comfort Extend Car Seat

  • Suitable for children: 4 to 35 lbs
  • Child Height: Up to 32” tall
  • Dimensions: 26.5” D x 17.6” W x 15.8” H
  • Seat Depth: 10”
  • Car Seat Weight: 12 lbs
  • Expiration Date: 6 years after date of manufacture

Comparing the specs, both seats are similar in size, weight, and suitable usage. The Cybex Cloud G Lux is slightly shorter in height and depth (length) making it a bit easier to fit into tight back seats, but it does have a shorter lifespan than the Peg Perego Viaggio 4-35 Lounge, which has a 7-year expiry date, rather than 6-year.

Safety First

Peg Perego and Cybex take their safety very seriously. Both infant car seats provide full-coverage protection with energy-absorbing foams, adjustable headrests, and unique Side-Impact Protection features, so you can rest assured knowing your little one will be kept safe in case of an accident.

The Cloud G Lux sports durable and dense EPP form throughout the entire seat, which is a bit more flexible and less brittle than EPS foam (still high-quality). While the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge hosts EPS foam throughout and dense EPP foam on the headrest.

The headrest on the Cloud G Lux adjusts to 12 different positions to keep your growing child snug and safe. The integrated harness adjusts automatically with the headrest for the perfect fit. The Viaggio 4-35 Lounge on the other hand, only adjusts to 6 different positions with no re-threading required.

To take safety a step further, each seat includes a unique Side-Impact Protection feature to further reduce injury by moving collision forces away from your baby in case of a side collision. The Cloud G Lux includes a Linear Side Impact Protection system which folds out from the side of the car seat and the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge includes Kinetic Pods which screw out from the side — both of which act as the first point of contact if someone hits you from the side.

Extra Safe Technology

The SensorSafe Technology is what sets these two car seats apart when it comes to safety. Cybex’s innovative technology on the Cloud G Lux provides real-time alerts to parents and caregivers about their baby’s safety. Sensors in the chest clip notify you if your little one unbuckles the harness, is exposed to dangerous temperatures, is left unattended in the car, or is stationary for too long. For more info, check out our full review of the SensorSafe Car Seat Technology.

Stabilizing Bases

The Cloud G Lux and the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge bases both include their version of an adjustable load leg and anti-rebound bar, which work together to reduce crash forces by up to 30% and minimize rotation if someone hits you from the back or front. These features significantly decrease the risk of injury in an accident or sudden stop.

Each seat can be installed in seconds with the base or with the vehicle seatbelt. The Cloud G Lux base uses a one-click rigid latch install to connect the base to the vehicle’s lower anchors, and the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge uses the Right Tight System, which easily and securely locks the base in place for added stability when secured with either the LATCH strap or the seat belt.

When using with your car’s seatbelt, the Cloud G Lux has a European belt path on the base and the seat, and the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge has a colour-coded belt-routing path to make it even easier to find where to thread the seat belt.

Relax & Recline

When it comes to comfort, nothing beats the option to recline! Both the Cloud G Lux and the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge act as a typical car seat when in the car but transform into the lazy boys of infant car seats when used on a stroller as a travel system

The Cloud G has a Comfort Recline feature which allows the backrest to fully-recline and the leg rest to extend, keeping your little bébé ergonomically positioned and fully supported when used on a stroller — compatible with all Cybex strollers as well as other brands like Nuna, Maxi-Cosi, and Baby Jogger.

The Viaggio 4-35 Lounge on the other hand, reclines into three different positions — sitting, relaxing, and laying down. It too has the ability to act like a flat stroller seat or bassinet while out on a stroll. This seat is compatible with most Peg Perego Strollers and other brand-named strollers with the purchase of adapters.

Colourful Cushions + Canopies

Available in a variety of modern colour schemes, the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge boasts a breathable, easy-to-clean, Fresco jersey fabric to keep your baby cool and comfortable. For your itty-bitty ones, it also includes a Dual Stage Cushion System to properly support their neck and bottom in their newborn days and as they grow.

Cybex takes a more minimalist approach when it comes to their colour palette with unified solid colour options for the Cloud G Lux. The flame-resistant stretch knit fabric provides a quality finish that’s soft to the touch, gentle for your babe’s skin, and easy to wipe clean. The additional in-shell ventilation allows natural airflow to pass through the car seat to keep your child even more comfortable and cool.

To protect baby even further from mother nature’s elements, the Cloud G Lux hosts a XXL UPF 50+ mesh ventilated canopy, which elegantly tucks away when not in use. The extendable UPF 50+ canopy on the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge zips out even further covering almost the entire car seat. The sides also include mesh ventilation to keep baby well-ventilated and protected from all the sun’s rays.

Which Will It Be?

With similar safety, installation, and comfort features, either of these infant car seats would be an excellent choice for your teeny tiny ones.

If you are looking for the added safety of real time alerts, the SensorSafe Technology on the Cloud G Lux SensorSafe Comfort Extend from Cybex may be your top choice. If you prefer a seat that reclines in multiple positions, then the Viaggio 4-35 Lounge from Peg Perego may be the best pick for you.
