Great gate
We have an older house that has an extra wide staircase so we found it very difficult to find a gate that was wide enough to fit the top of the staircase, as well as one that looked nice (I think that is important as it is part of the "decor" that everyone sees) and was solid. This gate has been great, fits perfect with the extension, and seems to be good quality, though our 18 month old doesn't hang off of it, but nothing has gone wrong with it with the hinges or latch. The way we had to put it on our wall left a gap between the top stair and the gate, which if she slipped she could get stuck in between, but that isn't due to the gate, it's due to where we had to place it so it was secure on the wall. I'd recommend this gate for sure.

Very satisfied
We just installed this gate and are very happy with it. It is relatively easy to install and looks great. We have a banister on one side of our stairs and wall on the other side and therefore had to look around at many different gates before deciding. It is exactly what we needed! I highly recommend this gate:)

Great gate
We have 3 of these gates (used at top of stairs and bottom of stairs) and are planning to get another one for our front porch. We have had them for over a year now and so far our 2 year old hasn't figured out how to open them, though to be honest he hasn't really tried. He does however like to shake them and they are holding up just fine. The only issue we have with them is sometimes it is hard to get them to latch properly but as they are used quite a few times each day it isn't too surprising, it is very quick to fix them when this happens.

Trustworthy gate
Very sturdy, believe me, it's been tested in my house. Looks great with our decor. Small issue that gate starts to loosen over time and closure won't catch properly; this can be remedied by re-installation, which has been done 3 times in about a year.

Sturdy gate
We purchased three of these gates to use in our 2 story house.
One mounted as is sealing off the main floor kitchen.
One mounted across the 60" opening going to our living room (using the two optional KC-G4200 10" extensions to allow for the 60" width).
One mounted at the top of our stairs using the optional KCK12 baluster kit so we didn't have to drill into the finished oak of the stairway.

As mentioned in another review, the instructions do have some errors; however it wasn't hard to figure out the proper installation for the misprinted steps.

One installation hint, don't install the lower latch side catch until the gate is mounted on it's hinges and locked into the top latch. Once the gate is held in place see where the lower catch needs to be installed. The template they give you does not always align, so doing this last catch at the end by eye saves moving it twice. :)

I would recommend this gate, it's metal is heavier and feels more solid then others I've seen and the hinges, although plastic, are a rugged plastic.

Excellent product
This product was recommended by a neighbour after I told him my experience with trying to get a traditional baby gate work at the top of our stairs. Excellent product! Well worth the money and time to install. Top quality safe gate!

The instructions have a few errors in them but using your common sense they should be easy to avoid.
