It is safe and works, but the design could be better
This safety rail is the perfect size for a crib/toddler bed, providing there is no mini toddler rail. (With a toddler rail, it will still fit, but it would leave no space for your toddler to get in and out of bed.)
It has a nice, tight fit, so you have no worries of your little one being caught between the bed and the rail. The mesh is also pulled really tight around the frame, which I liked.
The only problem I had with this rail was that the bars that slide under the mattress were over an inch up from the bottom of the poles they attach to. This means that the mattress ends up being raised about 2 inches on the outside of the bed. The effect is exaggerated even more if the mattress sits down in a frame, like most do. It was a noticeable difference for my picky little boy and he didn't like the slope that was created.

Easy to use and my little one loves her new freedom!

update from my orginal (mag27) review
This has been amazing. My boy is finally sleeping through the night again now that he isn't falling out of bed. I was worried about the cost as my convertible crib had a rail (not that it worked well) but it was completely worth it. I would pay three times this price to have the good quality sleep we now have. Pair this with the gro clock and I have a toddler who is sleeping though the night again which means he actually has naps too. One happy household
Also I did mine up tight enough that I have no trouble with it when I change the sheets. I very rarely have to put it back in place.

exactly what I was looking for
My son's convertible crib had a rail that was waayyy too small to keep him in (especially as he uses a pillow just as big as the rail) This is the only crib rail that we found that fits a toddle bed perfectly. It is sturdy and has held up so far to him and his multitude of stuffed animals. He is a very, very mobile/squirmy sleeper so that is amazing. I have only owned it for a week but It looks very sturdy and the only piece I can see having trouble with is the plastic piece that tightens the bands. however if this breaks one can always buy a replacement at a store like MEC.
I recommend this to anyone looking for a rail to actually keep a toddler contained.

Great for COnvertible Cribs!
I have been using this for about four months now and it has been great. There is enough room at either end that my daughter can climb out without difficulty without the risk of falling out.
My only complaint is that I wish it would attach to the frame as it needs to be put back into place every time I change the sheets. With that being said, it is only a minor complaint and would recomend this to anyone that has a convertible crib.
