Uppababy Cruz 7
What is better than winning an UPPAbaby CRUZ? Giving one! From August 15-28th, 2016, nominate a friend or family member for a chance to win an UPPAbaby CRUZ in Denny! All you have to do is tell us why they should be chosen over all other nominees to win a stroller. We will read through each one of the submissions and our panel of judges will select one lucky winner. To nominate someone, click here.
We caught up with last year’s winner, Karen for a quick update to see what she has been up to since winning CRUZ It Forward last September. If you want to read Karen’s story that was submitted by her friend Morgan, you can read it here.
Update: On January 12th, 2016, Karen, Maddie and Drayton welcomed their newest addition, Jayce Nathaniel Froude at 4:15 PM. He weighed 7 lbs 1 oz and was a spitting image of his Daddy. Jayce spent the first 5.5 months of his life stealing the hearts of every person he met in Saskatchewan. At the end of June, the family packed up their home and began their adventure east to their new home. They are thrilled to now be back in Newfoundland and closer to all of Jayce’s grandparents.
Well hello again! We are back to announce the winner of our annual Cruz it Forward contest! And let me tell you, what a roller coaster of emotions it has been reading through each and every entry! As I sit reading each and every entry, eyes red and puffy, it occurred to me how awesome every single person nominated in this year’s contest truly is. We had 957 entries this year, that is almost double the amount received last year! Which is why this year especially, we required a team effort to identify this year’s winner.
We are truly honoured and touched to share this year’s Cruz It Forward winner’s story and are thankful to have been introduced to such a deserving family and award them such a great gift in partnership with UPPAbaby.
Below you will find the story of Karen who was nominated by her friend Morgan. It is our pleasure and honour to gift Karen a fantastic 2015 Cruz in Georgie.
Karen has kindly agreed to let us share her story with you. The entry submitted by her friend Morgan:
“I cannot think of a person more deserving of an UPPAbaby Cruz than my friend Karen. The past 8 months of her life have been somewhat of an unimaginable story. Karen has been married to the love of her life, Jason for almost 10 years. For most of these 10 years, they have been trying to get pregnant but have been unsuccessful. After many years they decided to look on a dream of adoption. Being in Saskatchewan, adoptions is not always quick and easy. After many years of waiting and waiting they decided to give up on a dream of adopting a baby. On December 23rd 2014 they received the amazing phone call. They had been selected to adopt not one, but two children – a brother and sister. After a month of many trips to meet the kids, an abundance of paper work and so many tears of joy, they were welcome to their home a daughter who is now 6 and her brother who is 4. Their lives were complete and they now had their happy family. On the morning of April 24th, Karen said goodbye to Jason as she did most mornings and he was off to work. She spent the day running her day-home (which my son attended) and making plans for the weekend. Around supper time that evening, everything changed. Karen received a phone call from Jason’s boss saying that he was unconscious but had a heart beat and was being rushed to Regina Hospital. At this moment their lives changed forever. Later that night, Karen arrived at Regina General Hospital and was greeted by hospital staff to hear the words no one should hear. Jason was not going to make it. He had a brain aneurysm and was considered brain dead. At that moment she made the call to both their parents who lived in Newfoundland and told them to get on the next flight out to come say good-bye to the man they all loved. The next 6 weeks were an emotional roller coaster for the whole family. Once things had settled, and the kids and Karen were slowly starting to feel like they were getting into some sort of routine, she realized something with her body did not feel quite right. She originally thought it was just the stress of what they had been through, but something told her it wasn’t. Karen decided to take a pregnancy test. This was not new to her as she has taken many before in the past 9 years as they tried and tried to get pregnant (once being successful until they miscarried very early on)..after Karen took that pregnancy test the result was something no one predicted…she was expecting. Dumbfounded Karen took two more tests to make sure. How was this possible? They had conceived shortly before Jason passed away. A gift he left for her and the family, a piece of him. She is now reaching the half way point of her pregnancy and is still, at times, feels like she is living some kind of dream. We, her friends and family, cannot wait to help her and the kids welcome the newest member in early January 2016.”
Congratulations on your new stroller, Karen and family! We know you will love it and we are humbled to be part of this journey with you. Upon contacting Morgan with the news, she notified us that Karen has announced that she is expecting a baby boy!
We would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry into our Cruz it Forward 2015 contest and to UPPAbaby for helping us to make this possible.
Until next time!
It’s back! Cruz it Forward has returned for the second year. We were so blown away by the response last year that we humbly approached UPPAbaby again to see if they would be interested in a second year. They enthusiastically agreed and provided an UPPAbaby Cruz in Jake for the prize.
Over the last few weeks, we were collecting nominations on our Facebook page for this amazing stroller. To enter, our Snuggle Bugz fans had to nominate someone else to win the stroller and provide a story as to why they felt the nominee should win. Then we looked over the entries and chose the winner by committee. And it was hard, as it was last year (and as we were expecting!).
Last year we received 165 entries, and this year we received over 500, which is absolutely mind boggling! We narrowed it down to 12 entries that were nearly impossible to choose between, and 14 people chose their winning entry. If you nominated someone and didn’t let them know that you did, you should tell them. They may be comforted to know that someone noticed their need and felt they should win this great stroller.
Below you’ll find the story and picture of our 2014 winner, Desiree, who was nominated by her mom, Lynn. It is our pleasure and honour to, along with UPPAbaby, provide a brand new Cruz to Desiree.
My daughter Desiree gave birth to a premature baby boy, Taylum, with Polycistic Kidney disease (a rare and deadly disease.) They were told he may only live a few days. But with the miraculous help of Toronto Sick Kids Hospital he has made it to 16 months and is now awaiting a kidney transplant. Both of his diseased kidneys were removed. They are living in a tiny apartment at Ronald McDonald House now and Desiree needs to bring him to Sick Kids Hospital six mornings a week for Hemodialysis to cleanse his body and blood of urine and other contaminates. She travels back and forth with a pram which was given to her and is very much appreciated. But it has no compartments for her to store all of the items that she needs for Taylum, making these trips and others quite difficult for her. This new UPPAbaby Cruz would solve this problem and help to ease her very busy and hectic day. She is very generous and helpful to others and I strongly feel she deserves to win this UPPAbaby Cruz for herself and Taylum. Thank you very much for this opportunity to make my daughter and Grandsons lives easier. This is a wonderful product.
Congratulations on your new stroller, Desiree! We know you will love it and we are so happy we could be the ones to give it to you! And, because we love community, encouragement and supporting other parents here at Snuggle Bugz, leave an encouraging comment below for Desiree, her husband and baby Taylum!
From August 16th to September 2 we were collecting nominations on our Facebook page for one of our favourite contests that we’ve done to date. UPPAbaby was so kind as to provide a stunning Cruz in their lavender colour, Maeve, for the contest, and all we had to do was give it away! We do a number of giveaways and LOVE doing them, but this was on such a large scale that we wanted to make sure the stroller went to someone who truly needed an amazing stroller, and so the concept of the nominations was born.
We received 165 entries for about 160 different people. Reading the nominations (I read every single one) was hard and choosing a winner was excruciating – in a good way. Sort of. We narrowed them down to ten and then had a committee of six people choose their top three from those ten and the winner emerged from those results.
It is always amazing to see the kindness of others. If you nominated someone and didn’t let them know that you did, you should tell them. They may be comforted to know that someone noticed their need and felt they should win this great stroller.
We won’t publish all of the entries for many reasons, the biggest one being that they are highly personal. We have however obtained permission to publish the story of the winner. And without further adieu, I give you our winner, Tim (and Sarah) B of PEI. Below is their story as submitted by Tim’s younger brother, Scott.
Tim is my older brother (27), who was married to his wife, Sarah, on June 16th 2012. On their honeymoon, Tim started experiencing stroke-like symptoms and only later found out he had a brain tumor. Just recently (July 2013), the doctors were FINALLY able to get a biopsy, and Tim has since been diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma (brain cancer). During the time between him having symptoms and his diagnosis, he and Sarah became pregnant and had a daughter (Lola-Grayce) on April 5, 2013. With Sarah being a diabetic, there were a few issues with the pregnancy and Lola actually had to arrive about a month early. While giving birth, Lola had some damage happen to her left arm, and is currently undergoing physiotherapy, and eventually will need surgery (either at the IWK in Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Sick Kids in Toronto, Ontario). Lola is doing good now, and after experiencing some level of discomfort in the beginning, has since regained some use of her arm. Tim has started chemotherapy (living in Summerside, PEI with treatments happening in Halifax N.S. – a 4-hour drive). Due to this being in his brain, they have taken his license and his wife Sarah and his young daughter have been traveling back and forth for appointments and treatments for some time now, and will continue for as long as needed by the doctors (est. 18 months). Obviously at this time, with Sarah on maternity, and Tim on sick leave from work, finances are tight. A good stroller I’m sure would come in VERY handy as they are continually packing up and on the road, unpacking, up and down the halls of the hospital, and trying to get outside of the hospital for walks as much as possible – all the while trying to keep their daughter Lola-Grayce as comfortable as they can during this time. We have a yard-sale benefit planned for them tomorrow, and auction/live entertainment benefit planned for September 13th.
On behalf of everyone at Snuggle Bugz and UPPAbaby, congratulations Tim and Sarah on your brand new UPPAbaby Cruz stroller! We hope Lola-Grayce loves her new stroller and that it eases the burden on your family a bit!
