Our boy’s names are Kellan and Myles. You may not like either and that is okay, it doesn’t bother me. I have come to grips that not everyone will like my child’s name. Yup, I am sure someone said “what were they thinking naming him that??” To be honest I do not like choosing names – it is the one thing Adam (hubby) and I both struggle with…do we go trendy? Classic? Unique? Will it work when they are older? Can you butcher it? Is it easy to pronounce? Does it work with our last name? Does it work with other siblings? Bah! There are so many things to consider when naming your baby.
I also find that there is a lot of pressure – this will be their name for life! We are making this decision for them – Gulp!
So where do you fall??
Are you a people-pleaser name chooser? – Not wanting to offend anyone you go safe and name after family members?
Follow baby name books faithfully? Trust the author’s opinion on what is cool or uncool.
Childhood name hog? Go with the name that you scribbled in your highschool agenda. All your friends/family know this is your name and wouldn’t dare steal it!
Name eliminator? Find out the sex and delete half of the battle.
Name over-thinker? You can’t sleep at night; your baby has been named and renamed about 100 times by the time he/she is born.
I am a name procrastinator, over-thinker with a dash of people-pleaser. I never liked the name Kellan. Adam really did and he said if I could come up with one that I liked more we would use that name. Obviously I didn’t find one and by the time I was 9 months preggo ‘Kellan’ grew on in me….and now I love it. It suits him to a tee. We are bad with nicknames and I thought Kellan was pretty nickname safe but we do call him Kelstar, K-master & Kels.
When it came to choosing Myles we procrastinated. We were still brainstorming during contractions and had a vote with our midwives post-delivery whether we should name him Gavin or Myles. Myles won. I am so happy we chose it and I like how Kellan and Myles work together.
Another name tester Adam and I do is pretending that we have that name. Our conversations go something like this:
Lydia: “Hello my name is [insert girl name here]”…….
Adam: “well, hello my name is [insert boy name here] so good to meet you”………
If it feels awkward we know that it’s off the list!
How did you choose your little ones name?
Travelling this spring to visit the hot southern sun for a little vacation? As much fun as it is to finally feel that warm sun again, there’s a lot of preparation to take your little munchkin to visit some of these warmer climates. Top of my list is protection against any of those harmful rays , although we love the sun we also need to be incredibly careful around it.
UV Protected Swimwear
My children spend a lot of time in the sun and I always feel at ease when they are wearing their Baby Banz UV Protected swimwear. My daughters have these adorable two piece swimwear sets (skirt and top) that are UPF 50+…. for absolute maximum protection. The skirt and top are both fully protected and look absolutely adorable on! There are boy options also, with great blue graffiti.. or a little simpler.
As adults we very rarely go into the sun without wearing sunglasses. As important as it is for our own eyes to be protected, our children’s are equally as important. The Baby Banz eye wear for both children and kidz is the answer for incredible eye protection. They are made with lenses that are a category 3 UV 400 lenses….. which means that it eliminates 100% of the UVA and UVB rays!! This is peace of mind for all parents.
I wouldn’t even think about going outside in the sun without Sunscreen, especially in the Southern sun where it is just that much hotter and more intense. I just spent an incredible week in the Caribbean and wore 50 sunscreen every day, while reading outside I could still feel my skin tingle from the sun. Safety is imperative, and there are way too many risks to not take care of our skin. Our little ones skin is even that more sensitive, which is why I recommend the Green Beaver Sun Products. I have been asked for quite a while to add this line to our current products, and I finally did it!!

Having a hard time making sense of all the different swaddles available? I know it can be incredibly daunting to go shopping for a swaddling blanket for your baby and end up walking into a huge selection unable to undersand the differences between them all.
In fact, often while creating gift registries for clients we spend quite a bit of time discussing the differences between all the brands. Everyone is always interested in something that will help baby sleep better, and in return mom and dad too! But, how do you make a decision when there are so many options available? There are many different types of swaddles on the market and they each have a unique quality to them that makes them appeal to different people for a variety of reasons. The Halo Sleepsack, the Woombie and the Aden and Anais swaddles are all top of our list for swaddles.
Halo Sleep Sack
The Halo brand is created by an incredible company that puts a lot research into their product. The founder of the company began research into sleeping environments after his family lost a child due to SIDS. Since then the Halo brand has been devoted to creating products that encourage healthier and safer sleep for baby.
This swaddle is great because it is both a sleep sack and a swaddle. The swaddle portion of this is attached to the back using velcro so that if your child doesn’t particularly like to be swaddled you can still use your purchase as a sleep sack. To use the Halo sleepsack you would place baby into the sleepsack, tuck babies arms in and wrap the swaddle around baby fastening again with the velcro. The sleepsack zips from the top to the bottom which makes it incredibly easy for late night diaper changes while baby stays swaddled, warm and comfy on top, you can easily unzip up to the diaper, change, and put baby back to sleep.
The Woombie amazed me the first time I saw it. We often have people say that their baby is continually trying to get their hands out of the swaddle, and then end up scratching their face or waking them self up. The woombie allows the child to still move their arms without actually having to be released from the swaddle. To see how this works watch the video where you can see the infant is able to fully move within the swaddle, comfortably play with their hands, move their legs, without scratching or startling themselves awake.
Aidan and Anais
The Aidan and Anais collection relis on the traditional form of swaddling where you use a fabric that you would then wrap and swaddle around your baby. The unique part of what they have done is in using an incredible Muslin fabric that all of our customers have fallen in love with. The Muslin fabric is a delicate, yet very durable weave. The fabric is stretchy, which is perfect for swaddling baby as it allows the fabric to be wrapped snuggly around baby while still allowing some give for movement. The muslin fabric is also very lightweight and therefore lends itself to be incredibly breathable. And…. my favourite part is that the material only becomes better as it softens with each wash, becoming better with age.
Although there are many brands on the market these are a few that we stand behind, love the company stories about the product and hear repeatedly how well new parents babies are sleeping thanks to their swaddles!!
Christmas is definitely one of my favourite seasons of the year. Because I truly believe that Christmas is a season! You know how it goes Summer, Fall…Christmas..Winter, Spring. I have completely passed on this love of the season to our son, as he started begging for the Christmas lights to go up the day after Halloween. And, with success little S Bear and dad climbed the “too high ladder for mom”, and put the lights up! Now he runs home every night after school to plug them in and just stand and look at them.
I must admit though, I LOVE the Christmas shopping part of it too! I love trying to find the perfect gift, and crossing my fingers that the person receiving absolutely loves it. I love watching my kidz eyes as they open up that one present that they were wondering, hoping and dreaming for….and seeing the excitement that Santa really did read their letter!!
Although, I must admit it is pretty easy to start my shopping for the kidz, as I do so right in my own backyard…. so to speak. The kidz have received many prezzies from the store, in fact I have seen the kidz draw a map and write directions to Snuggle Bugz for Santa in case he doesn’t have time to make some things himself.
These presents have always been a huge hit… so …. here are some of our favourite Christmas presents straight from the shelves at Snuggle Bugz!
1. Monte Cubino Chair
Santa, brought these cute little chairs for our eldest 2, so when our third was born there was no getting around Santa fitting another one down the chimney! They all sit in them, watch their shows, read stories and eat snacks. In the play room and in our living room they are always a huge hit when friends come over.
Although originally bought for our youngest, it didn’t take long for the other two to sneak in a little play time with this awesome toy. It’s a fabulous ride on toy, with wheels that spin 360 degrees. They come in many different animal designs that will suit any personality!
3. JJ Cole Arctic Bundle
Keeping mittens on all of our kidz seems to be virtually impossible, and then I bought this amazing stroller blanket for Christmas. Well, blanket may not quite be the right word as it is much more like a sleeping bag for the stroller. The hood acts like a hat to keep their heads cozy and warm. Their hands without mittens, even on the coldest of days are toasty, and their little toes haven’t been cold yet.
This is the Christmas present I am going to bring home this year for our eldest! Best part is, it might be more of a present for me, than him! He absolutely loves getting up way too early in the morning, so I am thinking this is the perfect present. You set the time on the clock, and the face of the clock stays a moon until let’s say 7 am (which would be a great sleep in for us!) at which time the face of the clock turns to a sunshine! No getting up until the Sunshine shows its face!
Hopefully these hints have made your Christmas Shopping a little bit easier. If you are looking for more specific age related presents… call or write us anytime, we always have lots of great ideas!
I can hardly believe that our Snuggle Babies are turning into “Snuggle Kidz”!
We have successfully completed our first couple weeks into a new school year, which has been a particularly exciting time as our oldest son has started Grade 1! For an “active” little boy, all day every day in a classroom is a huge accomplishment! Starting French Immersion, and coming home with phrases like “Sure le tapis” and “If fait beau”, make this mamma so proud!
Snuggle Kid #2 has started JK! She is so excited to finally be a “big girl” and go to school all day, as she says, “All by myself”! She has started to love playing with her new friends, and asks every morning if this day she gets to go to school.
Although it is sad to watch them grow up so fast, it is amazing to watch my babies turn into little people, maturing and becoming independent.
