It’s back to school time and I am all excited for my munchkins. Little A.J is starting kindergarten this year, and big brother is starting Grade 1, all day every day! I loved school as a kid especially getting ready and all the excitement around new school supplies. This year though, we are adding some new items to the “must have” list for school supplies.
All of the schools are slowly turning to litterless lunch programs. I love that we are teaching our children to be conscious of the environment and continuing to emphasize re-using and re-cycling that the home environment is already applying. But…. it has been difficult in the past to find easy ways to send a “litterless lunch”. So many items are pre-packaged, and those that aren’t I am very accustomed to using ziploc bags! Although ziploc bags can be reused a couple times, they def. won’t hold up for an entire year!
So, two of my most recent favourite finds are making back to school lunches a whole lot easier!
This Byn has 5 compartments that will fit many different options for lunches! Top of our list are items like strawberries, yogurt, cheese and crackers, sandwiches… pretty much anything your little one wants will fit. There is also a space for a drink container, but you could also maximize space and use that for food storage also. The best part is that it comes with hundreds of dishwasher safe stickers, so that your child can design it to match his/her personal style.
2. Snack Bags
If you choose to go with a different lunch container, you can’t go wrong with these Snack Bags. I put anything from fruit and cheese to sandwiches in them. Each child has a couple and it makes lunches so simple and “Litterless”! The best part about them is that they are machine washable, so when hand washing just won’t do it, I throw it in the next load and they are ready to go!
Have you used either of these? Would you like to win a Snack Bag? Comment below and let us know some of your favourite snacks to pack in lunches. We will choose a couple lucky winners to each receive a new Snack Bag… contest closes Monday September 12, 2011, at 11:59pm EST, and winners will be announced the following day.
– winner must be a resident of Canada
– only comments with answers will be considered eligible enteries
– once the winner has been drawn I will make every effort to contact them. If I can not contact them with in 2 weeks of the contest a new winner will be drawn
The Piggyback Rider?? Genious!
Yesterday had to be the best weather day we have had in a very long time and I loved every second of it. Our day consisted of church, getting some new summer shoes for the kidz, and then playing outside for the rest of the day. We had the neighbour kidz over, we played on the swing set, dug holes in our gardens, raked, played in the hot tub, and had an amazing bbq for supper! The day couldn’t have been better!!
But one of the biggest hits of the day was product testing a new item that we are considering bringing into the store. Have you ever heard of the The Piggyback Rider? GENIOUS!! This takes a typical piggy back ride with your child pulling at your forehead and falling down your back, to a simple comfortable ride for everyone. Your child can actually see over your shoulders or head and the weight on your back is better distributed.
Check out the video for its simplicity, and why it was such a hit in our backyard that all the kidz needed their chance to try it out.
This is perfect for large crowds, longer walks for the older child that may need a break! I am thinking ideal for Canada Day? What do you think, would you like one of these for your kiddos?
Case Study #1
S Bear – The Runner (Year 2010)
The instant he knows that he’s done something (or thinks he might have), he immediately runs and hides. He hasn’t yet found that perfect spot, because I have yet to lose him in one of these escapades. Once found, I inevitably have to do a second chase, which escalates the situation, and my lack of patience. This is especially interesting when we are out shopping, ever find yourself coaxing a child out of a clothes rack? Not fun! For the most part we sit down and discuss the issue and come up with an appropriate, dare I say “punishment” and move on with our day, nothing really all that scary. Nonetheless the running continues as if this time it is actually going to work in my forgetting why I am chasing him.
S Bear – The Runner (Year 2022)
At this point he will have his license… unless I can convince The Ministry of Transportation to changethe driving age to 25. (I know wishful thinking) I expect that my Runner will become a “Driver”. I am afraid that he might just decide to take a nice long drive instead of coming home for our loving “discussion”.
Case Study #2
Little A – The Screamer (Year 2010)
If she isn’t getting her way, if she just got caught… she screams! And when I say scream, I mean hurts yours ears, fingers down a chalkboard scream! This also is pure joy when in public. I never quite know where to look when the screaming begins…
Option a) Look at the sweet older couple sitting near by shaking their heads at my lack of parenting. (Little do they know)
Option b) Look at the family sitting at the next table over with the “perfect” child giggling and doing everything as mom and dad expects them to. (I roll my eyes)
Option c) Just stare at the ground at all times and never make eye contact
Option C… Always option C!!
Little A – The Screamer (Year 2022)
I just pray that my personal angelic teenage behaviour (I actually was a really good kid! At least that’s my recollection anyway!) will somehow manifest in Little A, and the screaming will stop, and rational discussion can occur.
We have yet to learn what Baby V will do, all I know is that we will be well prepared in the case of a running screamer, anything else and we are back to the books!! So I am begging for help, what do you do in these situations? Do you have a screamer? a runner? or what else may I have to look forward to with Baby V?
Ugh, the guilt of birthday celebrations has kicked in as Baby #3, sweet Baby V turns 1! I remember so well S Bear’s first birthday. House was full of friends as a celebration of his first Birthday along with a celebration of the amazing support I had received from friends and family during my sons first year. Loot bags for all the kidz at the party, party favours for all the adults along with framed pictures for everyone attending with a picture of S Bear and guest! I have tonnes of pictures I could show you from this event. Getting a picture of Baby V’s first birthday wasn’t as easy.
Along came Little A, baby number 2, and the party wasn’t quite as sophisticated… and now poor Baby V! I watched myself this morning, and shook my head as I wrapped the present I bought the night before, in front of her. I continued to shake my head as I drove around and bought party hats and cake with her watching all along. I know she doesn’t really know what’s going on…. But Mommy guilt has settled in and a check and reminder that next year I will plan a little better and a little more in advance.
Don’t Let Those Eyes Fool You!
She’s as cute as a button with a look in her eyes that will win you over immediatley. So cute is Little A that when asked where her Sparkle is, “My eyes” is the response given. That sparkle in her eyes can only mean 2 things, she really is as cute as the picture leads us to believe, or she is up to something that is trouble with a capital T.
From early on, Little A has had this cute little look she would flash before doing something wrong. She would look at her brother with a smile and a sparkle, then turn his favourite TV show off, or grab his toy, or (well you get the point) as she giggled, and ran away. Just as she would be about to get into trouble for such actions she would glance with those puppy dog eyes with a smile you could hardly resist trying her hardest to tease her way out of the deserved time out. It is all this mamma bear could do to not giggle along with her. This all leads me to believe I have a lot to look forward to….
Love her Eyes, Love her Sparkle, just scared to see the inevitable Teen Years!
