My Hospital Checklist

I have been busy with the lovely job of de-cluttering my ‘junk drawers’ (everyone has these right?!). Personally I have this dreaded drawer in my house that is full of ‘semi-important documents/information’ – things that I am not sure if I should toss or keep and then decide to take on that battle at a later date. So the ‘later date’ has come and gone and it was about time to do a sort-through while the boys were napping.

Halfway through I found my hospital check-list. It’s always fun to read these things 6 months later (this is why my declutter job usually takes 3 hours instead of 1)

Anyway, not sure what your hospital checklist looked like but this was mine:

Important items:
-  Camera (make sure batteries are fully charged)
-  Cell & charger
-  Phone list
-  Midwife documents & health card
- Wallets

My items:
-  Zip up sweater
-  Comfy pants
-  2 x comfy tanks
-  Nursing bra
-  Sports bra
-  Comfy underwear (note *this means granny panties that can be thrown away*)
-  Ankle socks
-  Pads
-  Head band & hair elastic
-  Slippers
-  Pajamas
- Toiletries (shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, makeup, D.O.Moisturizing cream)
-  Tums
-  Lip balm

Adam’s items:
- Let him pack his comfy clothes….
-  Make sure car has enough gas

Baby items:
-  2x sleepers
-  3x onsies
-  Going home outfit
-  Swaddle
-  2x blankets
-  2 x Soother (have it washed & ready)
-  Diapers & wipes
-  2x hats
- Socks

Misc. items:
-  Cash for Tims
-  Books – don’t know what I was thinking here. We were too busy giving birth to get into a good novel!
-  Granola bars
-   Gatorade
-  Smoothie/shake
- Klean Kanteens
-  Advil
-  Baby name list
-   Make sure car seat is properly installed
-  Gift for Kellan (?)

Looking back I totally over packed – especially in the “Baby items”. I guess you never know how long your stay will be right?! I used almost all of these items….what I wish I brought was my own pillow and I should have packed this is one rolling suitcase vs. a duffle bag & diaper bag (less items to lug around).

What did your packing list look like?? Was I missing any must-have items? Please share for other expectant Momma’s :)

About Lydia

My name is Lydia and I am a momma (still can’t believe that)! My husband and I recently upgraded to be a family of four. We have two precious boys- Kellan (a chatty 2.5 year old) and Myles (a feisty 8 month old)- life sure is busy but we wouldn't change it for the world! I have been working in the baby industry for the past 5 years so when asked if I would be interested in doing some product blogging while on mat leave I couldn’t resist! I am hoping to help all the mommas (& dads) out there who want honest, reliable information in the crazy world of baby products- enjoy! check out my blog at http://itsmommyapproved.blogspot.ca/

My list is much longer but then I know I am going to be staying for at least a weeks so I need more than one pair of pants and a couple shirts. I also would include hemroid cream. I got a hemroid from giving birth to my first born and having to buy some cream for that at the hospital is much more expensive so just in case take some. I will be taking a book and some knitting but then again, I have a lot of time with nothing to do for a week. Also a small desk fan, for several hours after labour hormones rage about and I could not stop sweating. It was very uncomfortable. Also gonna take some snacks this time. I was hungry and wanted food more than anything else about 20 min after she was born and if you are not in time for a meal I am not sure what they can give you.

Baby nail clippers! The hospital I was at didn’t have them for some reason and my daughter was born with talons. Also, something to play music on. Keep in mind that the hospital may not let you use your cell phone if you are near heart monitors, so a separate mp3 player is good to have.
