Staff Spotlight 1
Welcome to the first installment of Staff Spotlight, in which I had a chance to sit down with our Sales Team Lead, Jennifer, who I don’t really need to sit down with because she sits seven feet away, and she answered the below questions for me/for you. Jenn is one of three customer service associates we have in the web department so if you’ve ever called us there’s a good chance you’ve gotten her on the phone! Jenn keeps the office upbeat and quirky – we notice when she’s not here! -S
Q} Tell us about yourself!
A} My name is Jennifer, I am an extremely positive and enthusiastic person, overly sarcastic at times and am always up for new and kooky adventures. I am a retired dance teacher & choreographer who has found a new passion in car seat safety. I love crafting, baking, cooking and anything inspired by Jane Austen or Downtown Abbey.
Q} How long have you worked at Snuggle Bugz?
A} I have been at Snuggle Bugz since March 7th of 2012.
Q} What is your role at Snuggle Bugz?
A} I am the Customer Service Team Lead, Chief Morale Officer and Official Treat Baker
Q} What is your favourite thing about the day-to-day happenings of your role?
A} My Favourite part of my role as Sales Team lead is helping customers make decisions on what products are best for their needs, talking to new people and building relationships with our customers. I also enjoy problem solving with my team, coming up with new ways to make our jobs easier and ways to make our customers happy. It really is the best job ever, and a pretty amazing company to work for!
Q} If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A} I have always wanted to go to Scotland, kind of a no brainer with a last name like McLennan. My mom’s parents came to Canada in the 50’s and would often go back to visit, and my Pa (grandfather) would tell the best stories about his time growing up and all of the history surrounding each village and town. I always found it fascinating and loved listening to him talk about it and seeing photographs and maps. My boyfriend’s parents are from Scotland as well, and his dad talks about a lot of the same places, so it would be neat for us to go together one day and see it for ourselves.
Q} What is your weirdest memory growing up?
A} I don’t know if it would classify as weird, but I was raised (from the age of 10 on) by a single father with a very large personality, so I have a lot of embarrassing memories from growing up! My dad and I used to go grocery shopping together, and he would tell me to “go long” and throw loaves of bread down the aisle, or start walking funny and say in his best Forest Gump voice “Hey Jenny, wait for me”. The most humiliating one was, in my high school days, we went to midnight madness at the mall and we were at the top of the escalator (with nowhere to escape to) and my friends were at the bottom of the escalator and he yelled as loud as he could “Hey, look Jenny, there’s your friends!” as he waved his arms like a lunatic while everyone stared at us. I wanted to die right then and there. So I have plenty of embarrassing memories of my “weird” father growing up! Entertaining to say the least!
Q} What are a couple of your favourite books or authors?
A} As I mentioned before, I love Jane Austen. I have read all of her novels, but my favourite is Pride & Prejudice, with Emma in close second. I also enjoy reading Nicholas Evans – The Horse Whisperer, The Loop; and John Grisham – The Runaway Jury, King of Torts.
Q} What life experience have you had that has changed your outlook on life?
A} When I was 25 I packed up my car and drove east to St. John’s Newfoundland and lived there for a year. It was a bit of a spontaneous decision, to move out to an island I had never been to before, to live with someone I had never met, and work for someone I had never met- but it seemed to work out pretty well. It was a crazy year, but it did my soul a lot of good. I learned A LOT. I met some pretty amazing people, had some fun adventures and experienced nature’s beauty at its finest. I learned a lot about myself, my limitations, my strength, and how to be alone without being lonely. A lot of people have remarked that I came back to Ontario a different person, but I feel I came back with my head on a little straighter and with a better idea about who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with my life. Wow, how is that for deep?!
Q} What is a guilty pleasure that you love?
A} I can quite often be found rocking out to Elton John Classics in my car; I am obsessed with the Food Network, and I enjoy a good John Cusack movie marathon.
